Bay Middle School rocks district Power of the Pen

Bay Middle School writers competed against 18 other schools at the recent District-Level Power of the Pen at Columbia Middle School, bringing home two team trophies. The Eighth-Grade team took First Place, and the Seventh-Grade team took Second Place.

The Eighth-Grade Writing Team included Anya Krumbine, Kayla Poling, Caraline Radcliffe, Isabel Hinojosa, Kendall Thomas and Abigail Donahue.

The Seventh-Grade Writing Team included Ava Anselmo, Milan Oppewall, Eve Mertic, Leah Oxsalida, Gus Priemer, and Aidan Ptak.

Our writers wrote hard through three 40 minute writing rounds. Four of our writers earned individual awards. 

In the eighth-grade category, second-place went to Kendall Thomas and Caroline Radcliffe took the 11th-place spot. Kendal Thomas also won "Best of Round" for per piece entitled, "The Game Has Begun."

Seventh-grader Ava Anselmo won "Best of Round" for her piece entitled, "Green Bunny."  Ava also took ninth place, and Milan Oppewall took fifth, out of all seventh-grade writers.

Volunteer Runners were Alex Jensen, Jossi Meaux and Emily Frindt. Power of the Pen writing coach and advisor is seventh-grade Language Arts teacher, Helen Goldberg.


The top 50% of writers at Districts move on to Regionals, which will take place on Saturday, March 11, at Saint Raphael School in Bay Village.
