More trophies for Power of the Pen at Regionals!

Two top team trophies and several individual awards made Bay Middle School writers stand out in a field of 18 other middle schools from surrounding counties at the recent Regional-Level Power of the Pen writing competition held at St. Raphael's School.

The eighth-grade team took the First Place Trophy in the competition, and our seventh-grade team won fourth place overall.

Both our seventh-grade and eighth-grade teams brought home the coveted, rotating Sweepstakes Trophy due to their high scores at both District and Regional contests.

Eighth-grader Isabel Hinojosa and Kayla Poling both won a "Best of Round" award. At the eighth-grade level, Kayla Poling won third-place overall, Abbey Donahue won fourth place, and Isabel Hinojosa won 13th place.

Seventh-grader Gus Priemer won seventh-place overall in his grade category.

Regional competitors who qualify in the top 20 percent will move on to the Power of the Pen State Finals held at the College of Wooster in May, competing against schools from more than 75 counties throughout Ohio. The students' advisor, seventh-grade teacher Helen Goldberg, will be notified about state qualifiers in several weeks.
